Is anyone tired of the board and barhite wasting our money? A 5% percent maintenance raise every year is unacceptable. It's even more ludicrous in a deflationary economy. Our maintenance should be in line with inflation not above it. To do so otherwise is pure mismanagement.
What we need to do as a coop is stop complaining on a message board where no one does anything except pregnant dog and start acting. Please reply to this post if you're ready to start meeting and organizing a petition to this board and the corrupt property managers of barhite and holzinger.
Lets stop the wasteful spending. We can start with the oil issue and end with the fact that the geniuses in charge put carpet in the basement (a cold and wet environment). Enjoy that mold while you're doing your laundry!!
Hope to hear from you soon. If you're ready and you're serious.

Don't they know that oil is DOWN this fall???
Does anyone know if the FUEL ASSESSMENT is going away? Bet it isn't.
I'm sure they're laughing at us now! I am decreasing all of the tips for staff this year down to $5.
I don't see what we can do about this except refuse to pay the increase. It didn't used to be like this...

Most of the increase seems to be from the oil price. If the price had kept going up and hit $200 per barrel, we would have said our board members were very clever and saved us a fortune. Because it didn't, it's easy to look back and say "weren't they stupid."
We must remember that this is a coop, the price goes up because costs go up. This does not mean we can't save money. How about:
Putting notices under people's doors instead of mailing. Using motion sensors for lights. Putting solar panels on the roof. Charging for electricity so people will have control over what they pay. Holding twice-yearly shareholders meetings to discuss things Opening up board meetings (except confidential parts) to encourage shareholder participation.

Or it could be because the staff *needs* a raise. I AM SICK OF THIS.

All I have to say is these people have chutzpa or B***s. This building is terribly mismanaged and we put up with their crap --they know we will!
Did anyone experience the "mouse problem" last year? It was created by a slob who was let in the building because his sister owned a unit.
The buIlding's handyman made a mess out of what he was supposed to fix...this is funny.
And now, oil's at the lowest $ in three years and we are getting an INCREASE. Will it go down next year? Hum? Huh?
MIS-MANAGEMENT.

Ginger,
Apparently you are missing the boat, yes oil is down what did you expect everyone to bring a crystal ball prior to running for the board, and predict future prices. If you have any inside information on the market please pass it along, if not go back to watching television. I see you as an arm chair quarter back that enjoys complaining and doing nothing. Another question did you get a raise this year? Maybe the staff wants a raise also or should we be calling you Scrooge.

You sound like you're part of the staff, eh poodle breath? Or one on the board who doesn't like to be questioned. Too bad, dearest, that is what a forum like this is about. New to the internet too?
Next: Your Raise.
It's time for you to get up off your ample ass and renegotiate the heating oil price - you do not deserve a raise.
No, tootsie, I haven't had a raise in 2 years and I make less than I did 10 years ago. Middleclass people occupy this building and we cannot afford to have the maintenance raised every year.
I'll wait for your next excuse and attempt to divert the complaints with useless insults and stupidity.

As usual, I will not be getting raise again this year. XXXXX, hope you're enjoying the RAISE the building gave you by increasing my maintenance! Luckily, I didn't give you a "gift" for the holidays.

Sorry to hear that, with that in mind I was wondering whom did you vote for in the November election? The reason for this question is if it was Obama, then you can expect to subsidize the world. On another note giving the staff a little bonus goes along way considering it is a matter of doing the right thing. I like you am middle class but if we would own houses would we not have expenditures? What if oil prices were going up, or you needed a new roof, water storage tank or water heater? You can not go with out those items in life, we as a cooperative must pitch in together that is exactly what we are. Maybe you should consider running for the board in May.

Geoffrey, it's rather idiotic for you (I assume it's you) to X out a name that was used because it was the name on the post I ANSWERED. So I was correct. This board is populated by management, building personnel and board members defending themeselves against complaints. In other words, this place is FOR MANAGEMENT, not for the people who live here. Zipper, same person, different name? Get out your crayons and do an X! Sayonara.
